Mauldin Barn 2022.jpg by Mark Gutzman, US Forest Service
Join us this summer on the fantastic Lincoln National Forest! Out in this region of southern New Mexico lies an old homestead. It was the homestead established by the Grandfather of Bill Mauldin, the famous WWII Comic artist of Willie and Joe fame, and the last remaining structure of the property is the barn. What remains of the homestead is now part of the Lincoln National Forest and, in preparation for further preservation treatment, the barn - after having suffered the effects of time time and weather - will be stabilized to prevent further collapse. Volunteers will participate in a number of different preservation and stabilization activities to ensure the barn stays secure, and everyone will be assigned tasks based on their experience, interests, and, of course, where we need you most!
