Join us this fall for a glimpse into Georgia's pre-Contact past! This October, PIT volunteers, Forest staff, and consulting archaeologists from New South Associates will continue to carry out test excavations at site 9HM190, located on a wide terrace of the Middle Fork of the Broad River. Previous excavations have recovered large quantities of Lamar pottery and we believe that at least one house was located at the site. In 2019 we even discovered a large storage pit from the Late Woodland period, dated to A.D. 800-900! This is a time period that is poorly known in this region, and we hope to discover more. The area is beautiful, and we hope you will join us in October for this unique and important project!

Please note: Strict COVID-19 protocols will be followed, including the wearing of masks.
