Historic Railroad Logging in the Zuni Mountains, Part 2 1/2

Cibola National Forest, New Mexico, 2016
by Christina Sinkovec, Archaeologist
Passport in Time Project 2016: Zuni Mountain Railroads Part 2 1/2 was a total success, I think. Eight dedicated volunteers and three archaeologists spent a week in the Zuni Mountains of New Mexico surveying and documenting logging railroad lines and logging camp sites.

This year we had a retired law enforcement officer and her Eagle Scout nephew, a photographer, a retired miner, a retired school administrator, a retired Mars company employee, a retired geographer, and a security guard. They came from Indiana, Oregon, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

I've been lucky to work with these volunteers for the past four years. They inspire me, they work incredibly hard, they bring a broad spectrum of perspectives to the table, and they remind me just how meaningful our work is.
